Reading Blog #8: Berger, "Ways of Seeing"
Introduction/Main Ideas:
- How men and woman are culturally represented
- Publicity image and what tactics the image/creator uses in order to grasp its audiences attention
- Though we may not notice it, in a split second our mind processes the entirety of the image and all of its components
Quotes:
- "A person may notice a particular image or piece of information because it corresponds to some particular interest he has" (4). : I agree with quote. I feel like people also remember information better when it either relates to them or they are actually interested in the topic.
- "Publicity is the culture of the consumer society"(139).: This quote is correct. In order for people to want your product they would have to know about it first.
- "Publicity images often use sculptures or paintings to lend allure or authority to their own message"(135).: Using images to create a message is a great way to capture people's attention. Often people rather look at an image and get a message from it rather than reading an article.
Questions:
- How effective is this tactic?
